A good wash routine starts with your hair and scalp, not a fixed calendar. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing products for your hair type and washing when hair becomes dirty or oily.
Cleanse the scalp
Focus shampoo on the scalp rather than scrubbing the full length of your hair. This helps remove oil and buildup without unnecessarily drying the ends. An oily scalp and straight hair may need more frequent washing than dry, thick or curly hair.
Condition with purpose
Use conditioner after washing. Fine or straight hair may need it mainly on the ends; dry or curly hair can benefit from application along the length. Detangle gently with a wide-tooth comb, starting at the ends and working upward.
Finish gently
Absorb moisture with a towel or T-shirt rather than rubbing. Limit hot tools, choose lower settings and use a heat-protecting product when styling. Persistent scalp problems deserve advice from a dermatologist, not simply another product swap.
